About the PRINCE2 Framework

Firstly PRINCE2 framework belongs to Axelos. The Cabinet Office on behalf of Her Majesty™s Government and Capita created AXELOS in 2013 in the United Kingdom. It was created as a joint venture. The mission of Axelos is “To make individuals and organizations more effective by providing practical guidance, content, and qualifications distilled from real-world experience and developing practices.” Axelos publishes several standards across several areas such as project management, portfolio management, and IT service management. Additionally, Axelos’ project management standard is the “Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2”.

Moreover, PRINCE2  is an acronym for PRojects IN Controlled Environments is a process-based method for effective project management.

In addition, the PRINCE2 project management certification includes PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner. In addition, Axelos launched PRINCE2 Agile Foundation and PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner.  Axelos also issues other credible certifications such as ITIL.

Most importantly the PRINCE2 methodology is constituted by four integrated elements: principles, themes, processes and the project environment. This methodology was developed to be generic enough so it can be used in any project, independently of this dimension, type, organization, geography, or culture.

PRINCE2 Principles are the obligations and good practices that allow the project to be well managed. To sum up the seven principles are:

  • Further, Manage by Stages

PRINCE2 Themes are aspects of the project that must be addressed the whole time. To sum up the seven themes are:

PRINCE2 Processes

PRINCE2 Processes show the project progression from initiation, project lifecycle, and closure. To sum up the seven processes are:

  • Secondly Initiating a Project (IP)
  • Thirdly Directing a Project (DP)
  • Further Controlling a Stage (CS)
  • Moreover Fiftly Managing Product Delivery (MP)

  • Finally Closing a Project (CP)

Finally, PRINCE2 Project Environment is a method that helps organizations to create a consistent approach that can be used in the organization.
